Ghatak Chakra by Moon Sign
The Ghatak Chakra is a traditional table that pairs each Moon sign with a month, tithi group, weekday, nakshatra, prahar and lagna considered less supportive for that sign.
What Ghatak means here
Ghatak roughly means unfavourable. Old panchang tables list, for each of the twelve Moon signs, a set of calendar markers that people of that sign were advised to keep in mind when choosing dates for important beginnings. The markers are a lunar month, a group of tithis, a weekday, a nakshatra, a prahar of the day and a rising sign.
MyAstroLuck works out your Moon sign from your birth details and then reads the matching row of the table. The result is a lookup, the same for everyone born with the Moon in that sign. It does not look at the rest of your chart.
Reading each item
The month is one of the twelve Hindu lunar months, such as Kartika or Magha. The tithi is shown as a group, for example Nanda or Purna, along with the three tithi numbers in that group in each fortnight. Nanda covers the 1st, 6th and 11th tithis, Bhadra the 2nd, 7th and 12th, Jaya the 3rd, 8th and 13th, Rikta the 4th, 9th and 14th, and Purna the 5th, 10th and 15th.
The weekday and nakshatra are given by name. The prahar is a number from 1 to 4 and refers to one of the four watches of the day. The lagna is the sign rising on the eastern horizon, which changes roughly every two hours.
People who use this table usually treat it as one consideration among many when picking a date, alongside the panchang and a full muhurta reading. Seeing your Ghatak weekday or nakshatra on a calendar is not a reason for worry. It is simply a note from tradition, and many astrologers give it modest weight.
Calculation settings
The Moon sign is found from sidereal positions with the Lahiri ayanamsa. The table follows a common panchang version, and regional variants exist, so another almanac may list a different weekday or nakshatra for the same sign. The chart and lookup run in our own engine.
If the Moon was near the edge of a sign at your birth time, a small change in time can move it into the next sign and change the whole row.
Frequently asked questions
Is the Ghatak Chakra based on my whole chart?
No. It is a lookup by Moon sign only, so everyone with the same Moon sign gets the same row.
What is a prahar?
One of four watches into which the day is divided. The table gives its number from 1 to 4.
Why does another almanac show different entries?
Several regional versions of the table exist. This page uses a common panchang version.
Which ayanamsa decides my Moon sign?
The Lahiri ayanamsa.
Should I avoid these days completely?
The table is a traditional note for choosing dates. Many astrologers weigh it alongside the panchang and a full muhurta rather than on its own.
